Abián and Peñalver give Spain a silver medal in badminton in Oran and Metreveli secures a medal in wrestling

MADRID, June 27 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish delegation present at the Mediterranean Games in Oran, Algeria, added a new medal to the pair of Pablo Abián and Luis Enrique Peñalver with the silver in badminton and secured another metal fight by Levan Metrevelli by reaching the final.

Spain added its third medal thanks to the veteran Abián and his third medal after the bronze medals of the karate fighter Alba Pinilla and the artistic gymnastics team composed of Alba Petisco, Maia Llacer, Claudia Villalba, Emma Fernández, Laura Casabuena and Lorena Medina Peñalver in doubles in badminton -Contest.

On the other hand, Marcos Sánchez couldn’t get past the repechage in the Greco-Roman and didn’t agree to fight for the podium.


Spain also had chances to increase their medal tally in table tennis in Oran, but failed in the fight for bronze against Greece (3:1). In the quarterfinals they defeated Italy (3:2), but in the semifinals they could not clearly beat Slovenia (0:3).

There was also good news in pétanque as Jesús Escacho qualified for the semifinals in shooting, joining Sara Díaz and Melani Homar in this penultimate step towards medals.
